The Power of Dreaming
Valentine’s
Night 2009 saw the official release of ‘The Power of Dreaming’ - Dominic
Piers Smith’s debut solo recordings.
The double CD, launched exclusively at the Royal Festival Hall to coincide
with Dominic’s performance of Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the
London Philharmonic Orchestra, focuses on the lives and works of two of
the greatest magicians in the history of keyboard music – Frederic Chopin
and Franz Liszt. A brainchild combining Formula 1 design flair with musical
virtuosity, Dominic’s passion and energy attracted support and collaboration
from both Yamaha Music and Honda Racing Formula One Team (later evolving
through Brawn GP into Mercedes GP Petronas). BBC
Music Magazine, amongst others, selected Dominic's debut
recordings for superlative review.
The uniquely contemplative nature of Dominic’s debut recordings is complimented
by extensive programme notes on the Chopin-Liszt debate by Robert Matthew-Walker,
one of the music industry’s most prolific and respected musicologists.
Through a personal selection of iconic works Dominic seeks to invite
the listener to challenge the idea of preconception and stereotype,
concepts which frequently obstruct the path of development and creativity.
Alongside his post of Aerodynamics Team Leader at Mercedes AMG Petronas,
and coincident with his arrival at one of the world’s most prestigious
platforms in classical music, Dominic aims to show that by throwing caution
aside, and ignoring any perceived obstacles and boundaries, accompanied
by constant hard work, determination, teamwork and passion, it is possible
to turn one’s dreams into reality.
